Softball: Destrehan, Belle Chasse, John Curtis, Haynes with wins Thursday

Area Prep Softball Report for Friday, March 25

In District 7-5A action, Destrehan won 8-2 over Central Lafourche at home Thursday.

The Lady Cats got a run in the bottom of the first inning before the Lady Trojans took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth. Destrehan answered with four runs in the fifth and close it out with two more runs in the sixth inning.

Ava Burkett was the hitting star with three hits and three RBI while Sarah Johnson had two hits and two RBI. Makayla Thomas had three hits and an RBI, Kylie Burford had two hits and an RBI and Zoe Hartley produced a hit and an RBI as part of a 13-hit attack.

Kandyn Mustacchia pitched an excellent game, going the distance, allowing no runs on five hits. Mustacchia walked no one and struck out three, using just 73 pitches.

Destrehan (11-10, 2-0) returns to district play Monday, hosting Thibodaux at 4 p.m. while Central Lafourche (1-9, 0-3) will host Thibodaux Tuesday at 5 p.m.

In District 10-4A, Belle Chasse routed New Orleans Military & Maritime 17-0 in three innings.

For the second straight game, freshman Sanai Salvant allowed no hits, striking out six. Caitlyn Sprunk drove in four runs for the Lady Cardinals.

Belle Chasse (4-14) will host Mandeville at 4:30 p.m. Monday while NOMMA hosts Karr today at 4 p.m. in a District 10-4A contest.

Far and away the top team in the Division I LHSAA state power rankings, John Curtis Christian continued to roll, hammering Archbishop Chapelle 11-0.

Kai Goodman pitched a complete game and homered to pace the Lady Patriots to victory.

John Curtis (21-1, 5-0) will host Houma Christian Monday at 5 p.m. while the Chipmunks (11-8, 0-6) will play at Thomas Jefferson Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The top-ranked team in the Division II power rankings is Haynes Academy.

The Yellow Jackets preserved that status with a thrilling 7-6 win at rival Thomas Jefferson in a showdown for first place in District 11-3A.

Hailey Peterson picked up the win in relief, allowing just one hit in three innings pitched.

Carson Heigle took the loss for the Lady Jaguars.

Aubrie Claverie and Jamie Weindel each had two hits, including a double with three RBI to pace the Haynes attack. Aubrynn Arcement crushed a pair of home runs for Thomas Jefferson while Alayna Cardenal had a pair of hits.

Haynes (13-3, 3-0) returns to district play today against Patrick Taylor at 4:30 p.m. while Thomas Jefferson (9-10, 3-1) will host Chapelle Tuesday at 5 p.m.
