CONWAY, Ark. – The Nicholls State University softball team won Sunday’s first game against Central Arkansas, 3-1, but came up short in completing the sweep with a 2-0 loss in the finale.

The Colonels (12-12, 2-1 SLC) used another sensational outing by Megan Landy to clinch the series. She tossed all seven innings, scattering five hits while striking out three. UCA’s lone run was unearned and came in the sixth after the Colonels led 3-0.

Like in Saturday’s victory, Landry (10-4) had a lead before stepping into the circle. Sophomore Emma Holland hit a 2-run homer in the opening inning, driving in Amanda Gianelloni who walked to lead off the game.

The Colonels added an insurance run in the fourth on a wild pitch. Gretchen Morgan and Caitlin Garcia both singled in the inning before pinch-runner Bailey Hughes scored.

Landry took care of the rest, keeping UCA off the board until the sixth. A leadoff error prevented her shutout as the runner later scored on a Libby Morris sacrifice fly.

In game two, the Bears (12-12, 1-2) received a strong performance by Rio Sanchez, who limited the Colonels to four hits in the 2-0 decision.

Alexis LaBure (2-7) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on eight hits. Morris had another sac fly for UCA in the opening inning, and Cylia Hill singled in a run in the third.
