Softball: Chalmette edges Hannan in thriller

Area Prep Softball Report for Thursday, Mar. 16

In a thriller, Chalmette edged Archbishop Hannan 4-3 in nine innings Tuesday at Chalmette.

The game was scoreless into the top of the sixth inning when the Hawks scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead.

The Owls answered in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single by Mikayla Dennis to cut the deficit to 3-2.

CeCe Higgins then delivered a big blow with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie it 3-3, sending the game to extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Gabby Parker doubled, Higgins singled her to third and Parker scored the winning run on a throwing error.

Chalmette (9-4) opens District 8-5A play next Tuesday, hosting West Jefferson at 4 p.m.

Hannan (8-9) will host Salmen Thursday at 5 p.m. in a District 8-4A contest.
