Softball: Cabrini outscores South Plaquemines

Area Prep Softball Report for Friday, Mar. 6

In a wild, high scoring affair, Cabrini outscored South Plaquemines 20-10 in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule Thursday at the Riverview Carrollton Softball Complex.

The Hurricanes scored twice in the top of the first but Cabrini put up 11 runs in the bottom of the first to take a huge lead.

South Plaquemines cut the deficit to 11-3 with a run in the top of the second but Cabrini scored twice in the bottom of the third and it was 13-3. The Hurricanes scored four runs in the top of the fourth but the Crescents answered with three in the bottom of the frame and it was 16-7. South Plaquemines scored three in the top of the sixth but Cabrini ended it with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Abby Harrison was the star with four hits, including a double and four RBI for the Crescents. Alexis Thompson had two hits, including a home run and two RBI for Cabrini, Kai Williams had two hits, including a double with three RBI, Makenna Borne had three hits and Alyssa August, Tatum Kirkwood, Ally Mones and Kayce Roche’ each had an RBI. Jennifer Brue added two hits for Cabrini as part of a 10-hit attack.

Julia Keller was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits. Keller walked two and struck out one. Alexis Thompson finished up on the mound for the Crescents.

Cabrini (2-3) has won two straight after starting 0-3. The Crescents will play Maurepas in the Northshore tournament Saturday at 11:15 a.m. while the Hurricanes (2-3) return to action today at Doyle at 4 p.m.
