Softball: Academy of Our Lady downs South Plaquemines

Area Prep Softball Report for Tuesday, March 10

Academy of Our Lady handled South Plaquemines 17-7 at home in a game shortened to four innings by the mercy rule.

The Hurricanes scored three runs in the top of the first inning before the Penguins countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

AOL exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second and it was 10-3. South Plaquemines scored twice in the top of the third but the Penguins answered with five runs in the bottom of the third and it was 15-5. The Hurricanes scored twice in the top of the fourth but the Penguins ended it with two in the bottom of the fourth.

Cambre Vegas has two hits and four RBI, Caterra Bates was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, Paige Chaisson was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Madison Bailey had two hits and an RBI for Academy of Our Lady. Alyssa Hartman, Kathryn McCormick and Shea Pineda each added an RBI for the Penguins, who banged out 11 hits. Gina Escude was the winning pitcher.

Academy of Our Lady (5-4) will host Fisher Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while South Plaquemines (2-5) has now lost three straight and the Hurricanes play at Plaquemines Parish rival Belle Chasse Thursday at 4 p.m.
