Soccer: Vandebilt Catholic takes over top spot in rankings

Area Prep Soccer Report for Tuesday, Dec. 24

Three of the four top-ranked teams in Louisiana remain that way in the new Louisiana High School School Soccer Coaches Association rankings released Monday.

The new No. 1 boys team is Vandebilt Catholic in Division III.

The Terriers (11-2-6) received eight first-place votes to take over the top spot. Parkview Baptist is second with previously top-ranked University High now third. Loyola Prep is fourth with Lusher Charter fifth and New Orleans Military & Maritime sixth. Loyola Prep and North Vermilion, ranked ninth, received a first-place vote each.

Unbeaten St. Paul’s (11-0) remains the unanimous top-ranked team in Division I with Dutchtown second. Catholic of Baton Rouge is third with Jesuit fourth and Lafayette fifth. Brother Martin is sixth and West Jefferson is tenth.

In Division II, Holy Cross (8-3-1) remains No. 1 with eight first-place votes with St. Thomas More second and the Cougars received the other two first-place votes. Beau Chene is third with Bonnabel fourth and Ben Franklin fifth. East Jefferson is seventh.

In Division IV, Episcopal (9-2-1) remains on top with nine first-place votes. Pope John Paul II is second with Catholic of New Iberia third and receiving the other first-place vote. Newman is fourth with Northlake Christian fifth and Christ Episcopal sixth.
