Soccer: Rummel edges Mandeville in thriller, Belle Chasse wins Saturday
Area Prep Soccer Report for Sunday, Dec. 18
In Metairie, Archbishop Rummel scored late to edge Mandeville 3-2 in a thrilling battle of highly ranked teams.
The Skippers took the early 1-0 lead before junior Christopher Wallace tied it in the first half. Senior Tobo Takpore put one in the back of the net later to give the Raiders a 2-1 halftime lead.
Mandeville tied it in the second half, converting a penalty kick with just three minutes remaining before senior Julian Mendez scored the game winner in the final minute of regulation.
Rummel (9-1) will host a good Brother Martin squad next Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. while Mandeville (7-1-4) suffered its first loss and the Skippers will host International High Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Belle Chasse blanked South Lafourche 2-0 at home.
The Cardinals led 1-0 at the half and added an insurance goal in the second half.
Freshman Jared Munguia and junior Trey Furey each scored a goal while junior Eduardo Barahona had a pair of assists. Senior James Miller had a clean sheet in goal.
Belle Chasse (9-2) returns to action next Tuesday, hosting Country Day at 6 p.m.
