Soccer: Willow beats Jesuit, Rummel blanks Chalmette to open season

Area Prep Soccer Report for Thursday, Nov. 16

Two elite teams in their respective divisions hooked up at Brees Family Field Wednesday and The Willow School scored an impressive 2-1 victory over Jesuit.

Max Moorman put the Lions ahead in the 40th minute on a header with the assist from Amos Liles on a corner kick.

Ellett Clum-Stockton expanded the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal in the 46th minute.

The Blue Jays cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal in the 65th minute but could not get the equalizer.

The Willow School (2-0), the reigning state champion in Division III, will next face Bonnabel Friday.

Jesuit (0-1), winner of 10 state championships, will face Ben Franklin with both matches in a tournament hosted by Brother Martin.

Archbishop Rummel opened its season Wednesday with a solid 5-0 home win over Chalmette.

The match was close for a half with Rummel up 1-0 at the break before the Raiders broke it open in the second half.

Sophomore Jeffrey Ayala led the Raiders with a pair of goals while junior Holden Aleman, junior Brody Mitchell and sophomore Robert Vargas each added a goal. Seniors Carson Campbell and Jonathan Zea each played a half in goal with clean sheets.

Rummel returns to action in the Piney Woods Invitational this weekend in Covington.
