It was a showcase of some of the top boys soccer programs in Louisiana, many of whom will play for and win state championships in Lafayette in February.

In the end, the two teams that met for the Division I state championship last season clearly outclassed the rest of the field.

Four-time defending state champion St. Paul’s and Catholic of Baton Rouge each marched through the BOSH Cup tournament in Houma unbeaten at 3-0 while no other team won more than one game.

St. Paul’s (5-0) finished off its fine weekend with a 4-0 whitewash of Brother Martin. In its three wins, the Wolves did not allow a goal, outscoring its opponents 7-0. St. Paul’s also defeated E.D. White Catholic 2-0 and Vandebilt Catholic 1-0.

Catholic (4-0) completed its unbeaten weekend with a 2-1 win over Vandebilt Catholic as junior Cole Cazenave scored a pair of goals. In its three wins, the Bears outscored their opponents 5-2. Catholic also defeated Jesuit 1-0 and the Bears downed Brother Martin 2-1.

Brother Martin finished the tournament 1-2, Jesuit was 0-1-2, and Vandebilt Catholic and E.D. White Catholic each finished 0-2-1.

The Wolves and Bears return to action Tuesday as St. Paul’s will host Mandeville at 7 p.m. at Hunter Stadium while Catholic plays at East Ascension at 6 p.m. Mandeville upset St. Paul’s a year ago in the regular season.
