Soccer Report: Pope John Paul II boys, girls win on pitch

A year ago, the Pope John Paul II boys and girls had successful seasons, reaching the state playoffs and winning a round before being eliminated in the second round.

The 2017 season got off to a good start for both squads Thursday as it was a good day on the pitch for as the Jaguars won on both the boys and girls sides.

In boys action, the Jaguars won at Franklinton 3-1 in their season opener. Pope John Paul II now participates in the Piney Woods Invitational at Covington this weekend, facing Christ Episcopal, Pearl River and Fontainebleau Saturday.

In girls action, the Jaguars shutout Episcopal 4-0 at home in their season opener. A year ago, Pope John Paul II reached the regional round of the Division IV state playoffs.

Pope John Paul II moves on to host St. Martin’s Episcopal Saturday at 2 p.m.
