Soccer: Pope John Paul II rolls to big win over Kenner Discovery

Youth was served in Slidell on Wednesday.

To say that Pope John Paul II has a bright future in boys soccer would be an understatement.

The Jaguars dominated from start to finish in an 8-0 victory at home over Kenner Discovery Wednesday.

The Jaguars put in five goals in the first half and finished it with three goals in the second half. Five of the eight goals scored by Pope John Paul II was scored by four different freshmen, an impressive feat.

Senior captain Zach Gressaffa led the way with a hat trick and an assist for Pope John Paul II while freshman Sair Bustillo had a pair of goals for the Jaguars. Freshman Nicholas Barone, freshman Shawn Rivere and freshman Brendan Kuzminski each had a goal.

After losing its season opener to Parkview Baptist, Pope John Paul II (6-1) has ripped off six straight wins. The Jaguars return to action in the Ascension Christian Lions Cup Friday against Dunham at 8:15 p.m. while the Swamp Owls (0-3-1) hit the road for a tournament game Friday against Ascension Episcopal at 8:15 p.m.
