Soccer: Pope John Paul II edges Mandeville

There is little doubt that Pope John Paul II has a real shot at winning the Division IV state championship in boys soccer.
The Jaguars are currently No. 1 in the Division IV LHSAA power rankings and first in the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll and it showed Saturday.
Pope John Paul II rallied to edge Division I standout Mandeville 2-1.
The Skippers are 11th in the latest Division I power rankings and tenth in the LHSSCA poll.
Mandeville led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Tyler Vekic on a penalty kick late in the half.
The Jaguars tied it on a goal by Jacob Mire before George Arata produced the game-winning goal.
Pope John Paul II (13-4-2) will wrap up its regular season Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Country Day while Mandeville (12-7) will conclude its regular season at Fontainebleau Monday at 7 p.m.
