Area Prep Soccer Report for Sunday, Jan. 31

There is little doubt that Pope John Paul II has a real shot at winning the Division IV state championship in boys soccer.

The Jaguars are currently No. 1 in the Division IV LHSAA power rankings and first in the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll and it showed Saturday.

Pope John Paul II rallied to edge Division I standout Mandeville 2-1.

The Skippers are 11th in the latest Division I power rankings and tenth in the LHSSCA poll.

Mandeville led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Tyler Vekic on a penalty kick late in the half.

The Jaguars tied it on a goal by Jacob Mire before George Arata produced the game-winning goal.

Pope John Paul II (13-4-2) will wrap up its regular season Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Country Day while Mandeville (12-7) will conclude its regular season at Fontainebleau Monday at 7 p.m.
