Soccer Playoffs Report: East Jeff boys and Mandeville, Northshore, SSA, Destrehan, ASH, Newman girls seek finals berths Friday

Friday is a potentially special day for seven area prep soccer teams in their quest to reach state championship matches in Lafayette.

On the boys side in Division II, upstart 11th-seed East Jefferson travels to second-seed Beau Chene at 6 p.m.

The Warriors (12-8-3) reached the final four with victories over 22nd-seed Central (4-1) before upsetting previously unbeaten and sixth-seed Riverdale (2-1) and third-seed Ouachita Parish 1-0.

Beau Chene (17-7-5) defeated 18th-seed Live Oak (4-1) and 10th-seed Terrebonne (1-0).

In girls Division I semifinal action, the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain rules the roost.

Eighth-seed Mandeville travels to The Pit to take on fourth-seed St. Amant at 6 p.m.

The Lady Skippers (21-5-1) shutout ninth-seed Lafayette (5-0) before shocking top-seed Acadiana (1-0) in the quarterfinals. The Gators (16-3-3) blitzed 13th-seeded Airline (8-0) before edging fifth-seeded Byrd (1-0).

In the other Division I semifinal, 10th-seeded Northshore faces district rival and third-seed St. Scholastica at 6 p.m. at Hunter Stadium on the St. Paul’s campus.

The Lady Panthers (15-4-5) shutout 23rd-seed East Ascension (4-0) and seventh-seed St. Joseph’s Academy (3-0) before shocking two-time defending state champion and second-seed Mount Carmel (4-3) in the quarterfinals.

The Doves (20-1-3) blanked 19th-seed Denham Springs and sixth-seed West Monroe by identical 8-0 scores. SSA handled Northshore 4-0 and 7-0 in the regular season.

In Division II, fifth-seed Destrehan travels to Lafayette to battle top-seed St. Thomas More at 6 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats (16-6-1) knocked out 21st-seed Lee (6-0) before winning at fourth-seed Lakeshore (1-0).

The Cougars (16-6-3) blanked 17th-seed Natchitoches Central (8-0) and eighth-seed Ben Franklin (1-0).

In Division IV, ninth-seed Academy of The Sacred Heart of New Orleans plays at fourth-seed Newman at Lupin Field at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals (10-8) advanced by shutting out 24th-seed North Caddo (7-0), whipping eighth-seed Pope John Paul II (4-1) and shocking top-seed Loyola Prep (2-0). The Greenies (13-2-1) crushed 13th-seeded St. Charles Catholic (9-2) and edged 12th-seed Country Day (1-0).
