A pair of District 7-II rivals who are accustomed to seeing each other annually will square off in the LHSAA boys soccer Division II semifinals today.

No. 4 Ben Franklin saw to that, shutting out visiting fifth seed Neville 3-0 Sunday in a match that was delayed for several days due to persistent weather issues in Louisiana, particularly in the Monroe area where Neville is located.

The Tigers were finally able to make the trip and it did not go well.

The Falcons scored their first goal in the first half by Austyn Millet and Kyle Ayres added a pair of second half goals for the victory.

Ben Franklin (16-3-3) advances to the semifinals and faces an extremely difficult task of playing just 24 hours later, though less than a mile from campus, at neighboring Holy Cross, the top-seed, today at 5 p.m.

There is significant recent history between the two local teams.

Holy Cross defeated Ben Franklin 3-0 at home on Jan. 20.

In playoff action, the Tigers knocked out the Falcons 1-0 in the semifinal round a year ago. Holy Cross defeated Ben Franklin 2-0 in the second round in 2016. The Falcons blanked the Tigers 3-0 in the second round in 2012.

The Tigers (23-4-2), the 3-time defending Division II state champions, are well rested. Holy Cross handled No. 8 South Terrebonne 6-0 in the quarterfinal round last Tuesday. Holy Cross also reached the final in 2016.

Ben Franklin will be trying to reach the title match for the first time in 2015. The Falcons are looking for their first state championship since 2014. Ben Franklin also won state titles in 2004 and reached the title match in 2005 and in 2012.

Neville finished its season 11-4-1.

Also today in Division II, No. 10 East Jefferson (6-6-4) looks to continue its magical run as the Warriors make the long trip to No. 3 Benton (14-4-3) at 4 p.m. in the other Division II semifinal.

In Division III, No. 2 Lusher Charter (18-1-3) hosts No. 3 Loyola Prep (18-4-5) at 4 p.m. at Pan American Stadium. The Lions and Flyers both reached the semifinals a year ago, both falling one match short of the state championship game.

In the girls Division III semifinals, No. 1 Loyola Prep (20-5-2) hosts No. 4 Parkview Baptist (12-1-4) this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The Flyers reached the title match a year ago.
