Three New Orleans area teams advanced to the LHSAA girls soccer state championship in Lafayette next week with wins Friday.

At Gonzales, the eighth-seeded Lady Skippers fought off fourth-seed St. Amant 2-1 in the Division I semifinals.

All goals occurred in the first half. Maleah Haley put the Lady Skippers (26-5) on top with a goal in the 10th minute before Adelaide Gaffney tied it for the Gators (16-5-2) five minutes later. The game-winner came from Caroline Aertker in the 21st minute and Mandeville made it hold up.

With the win, Mandeville advances to its sixth championship game, seeking its first-ever state championship.

The Lady Skippers will face a familiar opponent at Cajun Stadium in Lafayette next week.

Third-seed and perennial power St. Scholastica held off 10th-seeded Northshore 1-0 at Hunter Stadium in Covington.

Mary Lynn Schwing scored the only goal of the game in the first half for the Doves, who will be looking for their first state soccer title since 2015. St. Scholastica whipped Mandeville 4-1 on Jan. 23 at Mandeville.

In Division IV, two-time defending state champion Newman advanced to the state championship game with a convincing 3-0 win over rival and ninth-seed Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans at Lupin Field.

Gabrielle Reginelli scored early to put the Greenies on top before freshman Victoria Thomas scored a pair of goals

Newman (17-3-1) will take on third-seed Episcopal of Acadiana in the title game next Friday. Episcopal of Acadiana edged second-seed Ascension Episcopal 1-0. The Cardinals end their season 10-9.

In Division II, top-seed St. Thomas More ended fifth-seed Destrehan’s fine season with a 5-0 win at Lafayette. The Lady Wildcats end their fine season 16-6-1.

In boys action, the Cinderella run of 11th-seed East Jefferson came to an end as the Warriors fell 2-1 at third-seed Beau Chene in the Division II semifinals.
