Soccer: Newman, Rummel score impressive wins Friday

Area Prep Soccer Report for Saturday, Jan. 23

A pair of teams ranked fifth in their respective divisions in the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings hooked up Friday at Lupin Field.

The homestanding Newman Greenies shutout the East Jefferson Warriors 3-0.

Newman is ranked fifth in Division IV while East Jefferson is fifth in Division II.

Senior Alex Friedlander was sensational for the Greenies, scoring all three goals for a hat trick.

Newman (7-6-1) will host Country Day at 7 p.m. Tuesday while East Jefferson (3-6-2) will host Grace King at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Joe Yenni Stadium.

Battling to make the state playoffs, Archbishop Rummel got an important win, edging Destrehan 3-2 at Destrehan Friday night.

The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Junior Eric Ochoa, sophomore CJ Koppeis and sophomore Tobo Takpor each scored a goal for the Raiders.

Rummel (10-7-2) returns to action at home this morning at 11 a.m. against St. Charles Catholic while Destrehan (4-10-5) travels to Pope John Paul II Tuesday at 7 p.m.
