Soccer: Mount Carmel at St. Joseph’s in big matchup Wednesday

On a 10-match win streak, defending Division I state champion Mount Carmel (16-1) travels to Baton Rouge to take on St. Joseph’s Academy (6-2-2) at 3 p.m.

The Redstickers won their last match, beating Fontainebleau 5-2 last Thursday. The Cubs are fourth while St. Joseph’s is sixth in the most recent power ratings released by the LHSAA Tuesday.

The New Orleans area has four teams among the top 10 teams.

West Monroe is the top-ranked team with Acadiana second and Captain Shreve third. Airline is fifth with Mandeville seventh, Covington eighth, St. Scholastica ninth and St. Amant tenth.

In Division II, Benton is the top-ranked team with West Ouachita second and Parkway third. Terrebonne is fourth with Central Lafourche fifth. St. Thomas More is sixth with Ruston seventh and Caddo Magnet eighth. South Terrebonne is ninth and Neville is tenth. Ben Franklin is the top New Orleans area team, checking in at No. 11.

In Division III, Vandebilt Catholic tops the power rankings with St. Louis Catholic second and E.D. White Catholic third. North DeSoto is fourth with University High fifth. Teurlings Catholic is sixth with Cecilia seventh and St. Martinville eighth. Archbishop Hannan is ninth with Haynes at No. 10.

In Division IV, unbeaten Loyola Prep is the top-ranked team with unbeaten Newman second. Catholic of New Iberia is third with Houma Christian fourth and St. Frederick fifth. McGehee is sixth with Sterlington seventh, Episcopal of Acadiana eighth, Opelousas Catholic ninth and Christ Episcopal tenth.

On the boys side, four-time defending state champion St. Paul’s is No. 1 in Division I with Captain Shreve second and Byrd third. Catholic of Baton Rouge is fourth with Northshore fifth. Lafayette is sixth with Pineville seventh, St. Amant eighth, Barbe ninth and Denham Springs tenth.

In Division II, Beau Chene is No. 1 with Ruston second and Ouachita Parish third. Holy Cross is at No. 4 with unbeaten Riverdale fifth and Benton sixth. Caddo Magnet is seventh with Terrebonne eighth, Westgate ninth and Neville tenth.

In Division III, Parkview Baptist is No. 1 with E.D. White Catholic second. Erath is third, Loyola Prep is fourth and David Thibodaux is fifth. North Vermilion is sixth with Teurlings Catholic seventh, University High eighth, Cecilia ninth and DeRidder tenth.

In Division IV, Episcopal of Acadiana is the top-ranked team with Northlake Christian second. Episcopal is third with Catholic of New Iberia fourth and Glenmora fifth. Newman is sixth with St. Thomas Aquinas seventh, St. Frederick eighth, Dunham ninth and Christ Episcopal tenth.
