As the runner-up in Division II a year ago, Holy Cross is looking to take it one step further in 2018. The Tigers appear on track to accomplish their goal.

Ethan Jones scored the winning goal on a penalty kick in stoppage time as the Tigers fought off a stiff challenge from West Jefferson, winning 3-2 Saturday. It was the seventh straight win for Holy Cross.

Holy Cross led 2-1 at the half on the strength of goals by Ethan Garvey and Blake Baldassaro.

The Tigers (12-2-1) are the top-ranked team in the most recent Division II power rankings and are the top-ranked beam in the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings as well.

Holy Cross returns to action Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Jesuit at John Ryan Stadium while the Buccaneers (9-4-1) play Bonnabel Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Joe Yenni Stadium.
