Soccer: Holy Cross ties East Jefferson for top spot in Division II poll

Area Prep Soccer Report for Tuesday, Jan. 8

Back and forth they go.

A few weeks ago, defending Division II state champion Holy Cross was the No. 1 team in the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll. Last week, East Jefferson supplanted the Tigers in that spot.

This week, the two powers are tied for the top spot in the poll.

The Tigers (12-3-2) and Warriors (9-2-3) each received 144 points to share the spot. Holy Cross got five first-place votes while East Jefferson received four. Lakeshore is third with St. Thomas More fourth. The Cougars received the other first-place vote. Beau Chene is fifth. Ben Franklin is ninth.

Jesuit remains on top in Division I. The defending state champion Blue Jays (14-0-4) received six first-place votes while St. Paul’s (10-0-3) is second with the remaining four first-place votes. Denham Springs is third with Northshore fourth and St. Amant fifth. St. Paul’s edged Northshore 1-0 yesterday evening.

St. Louis Catholic (12-3-3) received eight first-place votes and is No. 1 in Division III. University High (9-2-2) is second with two first-place votes. E.D. White Catholic is third, Teurlings Catholic is fourth with Loyola Prep fifth. Defending state champion Vandebilt Catholic is seventh with Lusher is ninth and Archbishop Hannan tenth.

Defending state champion Episcopal of Acadiana (10-0-2) remains the unanimous choice for the top spot in Division IV. Newman (3-2-3) is second with Episcopal third, Northlake Christian fourth and Catholic of New Iberia fifth. Pope John Paul II is seventh, Christ Episcopal is eight, St. Thomas Aquinas is ninth with Country Day tenth.
