Soccer: Holy Cross, Rummel with clean sheet wins Monday

Area Prep Soccer Report for Tuesday, Jan. 4

Four-time defending Division II state champion Holy Cross continued to roll Monday, blanking St. Martin’s Episcopal 7-0.

Superb Senior Ryan Jeanfreau continued his superb season, leading the way with a hat trick while sophomore Andrew Touro had two goals for the Tigers. Sophomore Seth Rutman and senior Michael McKenna each added a goal for Holy Cross.

Holy Cross (11-3-1), ranked first in the most recent LHSAA Division II power rankings, ran its unbeaten streak to nine games, including a tie against Division I top-ranked Jesuit (1-1). The Saints fell to 5-3-2 with the defeat.

Ranked sixth in the most recent LHSAA Division I power rankings, Archbishop Rummel continued its fine play with a 6-0 victory over Archbishop Shaw at home in Metairie.

Rummel scored twice in the first half to lead 2-0 before exploding in the second half with four goals.

Juniors Tobo Takpor and CJ Koppeis continue to be the dynamic duo for the Raiders.

Takpor was tremendous with four goals while Koppeis added the other two goals.

Rummel (13-4-1) will open District 6-I play Wednesday against top-ranked Jesuit at 5 p.m. at Pan American Stadium. The Blue Jays have dominated the Raiders, who have not beaten Jesuit since 2004.
