Soccer: Holy Cross, Rummel win at home Saturday

Area Prep Soccer Report for Sunday, Jan. 3

Holy Cross continued its fine season Saturday.

The three-time defending state champion and top ranked (Division II) Tigers handled De La Salle 5-1 in Gentilly.

After spotting the Cavaliers an early lead, the Tigers scored five straight goals to pull away for the win.

Drew Touro got the equalizer to even the score by halftime.

The second half belonged to Holy Cross, outscoring the Cavaliers 4-0.

Junior Ryan Jeanfreau had a goal and an assist while senior Carlos Castellanos scored twice in the second half for Holy Cross. An own goal was mixed in.

Holy Cross (11-2-2) will host St. Michael at 7 p.m. Monday while De La Salle (2-7) will play Haynes Academy Tuesday at 5 p.m.

At home, Archbishop Rummel downed Slidell 3-1.

Rummel had a 2-0 lead at halftime and maintained that advantage in the second half.

Sophomore Tobo Takpor had a pair of goals for the Raiders while sophomore CJ Koppeis added a goal.

Rummel (8-5-1) travels to Ponchatoula Monday at 5 p.m. while the Tigers (0-4-1) will play at Pope John Paul II Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
