Area Prep Soccer Report for Thursday, Jan. 3

Holy Cross did not take kindly to being supplanted as the No. 1 team in the state in Division II in the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association poll.

The second-ranked Tigers let their frustration out with a terrific performance in a 5-0 victory at Northlake Christian. The Wolverines are the fourth-ranked team in the latest Division IV poll.

Chad Cadiere and Sinjin Mills each scored a first half goal to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead by the break before Ben Tichenor made it 3-0 in the second half. Cadiere then headed in his second goal before Eli LaFrance finished it off with the final goal for the convincing win.

Holy Cross was second in the latest Division II LHSAA power rankings behind Caddo Magnet while Northlake Christian was seventh in Division IV. East Jefferson replaced Holy Cross as the top-ranked team in the Division II coaches poll this week.

The Tigers (10-3-2) travel to Lake Charles to take on top-ranked St. Louis Catholic (Division III) Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Wolverines (3-3-1) will entertain Country Day Saturday at 7 p.m.

In girls action, a pair of top contenders for Division I honors hooked up at Pan American Stadium and the result was inconclusive.

Second-ranked Mandeville played to a scoreless draw with sixth-ranked Mount Carmel Academy.

The Skippers, runner-up in Division I a year ago, are No. 1 in the latest LHSAA Division I power rankings while the Cubs are ninth.

Mandeville (13-1-3) returns to action Friday, hosting rival Fontainebleau at 5:30 p.m. while Mount Carmel (12-2-7) will host Baton Rouge High next Tuesday at 5 p.m.
