Area Prep Soccer Report for Thursday, Jan. 13

Dominican looks the part of a potential state champion.

After losing in the Division I title match to rival Mount Carmel Academy in 2021, Dominican is poised to take that next step in 2022.

Ranked second in the Division I power rankings behind St. Joseph’s Academy, Dominican faced a showdown with Northshore, ranked third in the power rankings.

After a slow start, Dominican took over in a 4-1 victory Wednesday at Pan American Stadium.

The match was tied early at 1-1.

Jasmine Ferrier put Dominican on top with an early goal before Kate Kull tied it for Northshore.

Dominican took over, dominating the rest of the way with goals by Lily Ellis, Ella Goins and Madison Trauth. Kelsey Major had a pair of assists.

The only loss for Dominican this season came out-of-state. The loss snapped a four-match win streak for the Lady Panthers.

Dominican (20-1-1) returns to action next Monday afternoon at Pan American Stadium against Baton Rouge while Northshore (14-2) will travel to Fontainebleau Friday at 5:30 p.m. in a District 5-1 match.

Dominican still has an important date with Mount Carmel on Jan. 29 while Northshore has a game to circle on the schedule on Jan. 22 against St. Joseph’s Academy.
