With cold and rain throughout the New Orleans area and in south Louisiana, most soccer matches scheduled for Wednesday were postponed or canceled and the danger of that occurring again today is possible.

In girls action, defending Division I state champion Mount Carmel rolled on with an easy 8-0 win over West Jefferson to improve to 12-1 on the season with its sixth straight win . It was the season opener for the Buccaneers. The Cubs will face Fontainebleau in the Hahnville Tournament Friday while West Jefferson plays at East St. John Friday.

Coming off of a big 4-3 win over Archbishop Rummel, Bonnabel played to a 1-1 tie with always tough Grace King at Joe Yenni Stadium.

Each team scored a goal in the first half with Kenroy Rodriguez scoring first on a penalty kick for the Fighting Irish while Aaron Salazar scored for the Bruins.

The Bruins (4-2-2) return to action a week from Thursday at St. Martin’s Episcopal while the Fighting Irish (2-1-1) open play in the Mandeville Tournament against Lakeshore this evening at 6:30 p.m.
