Soccer: Bonnabel boys, Hahnville girls with Friday wins on the pitch

Area Prep Soccer Report for Saturday, Jan. 8

A team to watch in Division II boys soccer is Bonnabel.

At Pan American Stadium on Friday, the Bruins edged West Monroe 2-1.

Carlos Merlo scored in the first half for the Bruins before Sebastian Ramos provided insurance with a second half goal to make it 2-0. The Rebels scored in extra time but it was not enough.

Brandon Cardoza was solid in goal for Bonnabel.

The Bruins (9-1-2) return to action, hosting Belle Chasse at 4:30 p.m.

In girls action, Hahnville defeated Thibodaux 3-1 in the District 6-I opener for both teams at Thibodaux.

Ashlyn DeSoto scored a pair of goals for Hahnville while Kayla Martin added the third goal. Raegan Miller recorded five saves in goal.

Both teams return to district play next Tuesday. The Lady Tigers (8-7-1) host Central Lafourche at 5:30 p.m. while Thibodaux (10-8-1) plays at H.L. Bourgeois at 5 p.m.
