Soccer: Belle Chasse gets key district win over Shaw

Belle Chasse moved a step closer to a District 6-II title with a 2-1 victory over Archbishop Shaw on a chilly Thursday evening in Belle Chasse.
After leading 1-0 at halftime on a goal by senior Denalie Cortes, it was Cortes scoring a second goal in the second half which proved to be the difference. Sophomore Brennan Chestnut had an assist for the Cardinals.
Belle Chasse (7-4-3, 3-0) remained unbeaten in district play with one more league game remaining against Higgins on Jan. 27. The Cardinals are slated to travel to Fisher Friday at 7 p.m. The Eagles (10-6-2, 2-1) will return to action Saturday morning at 11 a.m., hosting Morris Jeff Community.
