Area Prep Soccer Report for Friday, Jan. 8

In a good match, Belle Chasse edged Country Day 4-3 at home Thursday.

The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead at halftime and maintained their slight edge in the second half.

Sophomore Jorge Martinez continued his brilliant season, scoring all four goals for Belle Chasse in a brilliant performance. Freshman Trey Fury had a pair of saves, as did junior Blaine Mouriz. Senior Dylan Hopstetter had six saves in goal.

Martinez now has 19 goals in nine games, along with four assists.

The Cardinals (8-1) have now won seven straight matches.will host Pope John Paul II Saturday at 2 p.m. The only loss for Belle Chasse was to 3-time defending Division II state champion Holy Cross. The Cajuns (2-3-1) will host Thomas Jefferson next Thursday at 6 p.m.
