Soccer: Academy of the Sacred Heart hosts E.D. White Catholic

A pair of ranked teams square off tonight at Tad Gormley Stadium in girls action in a battle of Cardinals as Academy of the Sacred Heart entertains E.D. White Catholic at 7 p.m.

Sacred Heart was ranked fifth in the most recent Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings in Division IV while E.D. White was fifth in Division III.

Sacred Heart (3-4) has played a tough schedule, losing to good teams in Mount Carmel, Vandebilt Catholic, Teurlings Catholic and Slidell.

E.D. White Catholic (7-6-4) has also played a tough schedule, losing twice to Mount Carmel and once each to Dominican, Central Lafourche, Mandeville, St. Louis Catholic.

E.D. White is fifth in the most recent Division III power rankings released by the LHSAA while Sacred Heart was 16th in the Division IV rankings. E.D. White Catholic reached the Division III semifinals a year ago while Academy of the Sacred heart reached the Division III quarterfinals. Sacred Heart last won a state title, taking the Division III crown in 2013, their fourth straight championship. The Cardinals also won a state crown in 2003 and 2005, most recently.
