HAMMOND, La. – Taylor Bell will continue her athletic and academic endeavors starting in the 2021-22 season as a member of the Southeastern Louisiana women’s basketball program, SLU head coach Ayla Guzzardo announced on Friday.

Bell, a 5-11 forward from Shreveport, Louisiana, comes to Hammond out of Huntington High School.

“We are thrilled to welcome Taylor to our Lady Lion family,” Guzzardo said. “We are not only gaining a dominant player on the court, but someone with a phenomenal work ethic who holds herself accountable. Taylor can score at all three levels and will be a matchup problem for opposing defenses.”

Bell closed out her prep career as a two-time District 1-4A MVP at Huntington High. She averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists on the way to helping the Lady Raiders to the Class 4A state championship game – played on her future collegiate home court in the University Center.

A first team All-State and Shreveport All-City selection this spring, Bell was her team’s Most Outstanding Player at the LHSCA All-Star Game. While Bell was the West’s top player, future Lady Lion teammate Presleigh Scott was the East’s Most Outstanding Player.

Bell and Scott are two of four new additions for Southeastern heading into the 2021-22 campaign. Scott, a Doyle High School product from Livingston, Louisiana and guard Jade Brumfield, a Hammond, Louisiana nave who prepped at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, signed in November. The Lady Lions added graduate transfer center and Orlando, Florida native Morgan Davis from Texas A&M on Thursday.

The newest Lady Lions will be joining an ascending program, as SLU posted its first winning season since 2008-09 and earned its highest-ever finish in the Southland Conference this past season.

Southeastern returns its top eight scorers from last season’s team, led by All-Southland performers Morgan Carrier and Hailey Giaratano. The Lady Lions will also benefit from the return of 2019-20 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Alexius Horne, who missed all of 2020-21.
