SLU ranked 22nd, 23rd in latest FCS polls

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team remains ranked nationally in both the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 and the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 this week.

The Lions (2-2, 2-2 Southland) came up on wrong end of a shootout last Saturday in San Antonio, falling to then-No. 22 UIW, 56-45. SLU finished with 36 first downs and 551 yards of total offense in the high-scoring affair.

Southeastern dropped seven spots to No. 23 in the Stats Perform media poll. The Lions are joined in the Top 25 by spring 2021 foes No. 5 Sam Houston, No. 13 UIW and No. 17 Nicholls.

The AFCA Coaches poll made its spring debut last week and SLU was No. 20 in the first poll. Southeastern has dropped to No. 22 in this week’s poll, which also includes Southland Conference representatives Sam Houston (No. 4), Nicholls (No. 14) and UIW (No. 15).

Southeastern will have a week off, before closing out its spring home schedule versus Lamar on Saturday, April 3 at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
