HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s basketball team promoted Riley Conroy to interim assistant coach, second-year SLU men’s head basketball coach David Kiefer announced Monday.

Conroy’s hire is pending the approval of the Louisiana System’s Board of Supervisors.

The New Orleans native and Jesuit alum is in his second season with the program after serving as the team’s director of recruiting during the 2019-20 season.

“I want to thank Coach Kiefer and Southeastern for this amazing opportunity,” said Conroy. “Having the chance to coach in state where I attended high school and college is truly a blessing. Louisiana is home for me. I am looking forward to coaching the outstanding student-athletes that Coach Kiefer and the rest of the staff have assembled.”

During the 2018-19 season, he coached at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas. As an assistant coach, he helped guide the team to a top-10 finish nationally with 11 players going on to play at the collegiate level at various schools including Michigan State, Creighton, and Austin Peay.

A Jesuit High School grad, Conroy played four years at Tulane University under two different head coaches. He played for his father, Ed, during his first two years and Mike Dunleavy Sr. for his final two years. Ed is currently the Associate Head Coach at the University of Minnesota.

Conroy played his high school career at JHS (2010-2014) in New Orleans and was named second team District 6-5A his sophomore year averaging 10.1 points for his career. He
also helped guide Jesuit to the district title his junior year (2013) and advanced to the second round of the LHSAA playoffs.
“With his dad being a head coach, Riley understands the profession and what it takes,” said Kiefer. “He came in last year and worked for close to nothing and earned his promotion. He is a relentless worker, extremely organized and great on the floor. Riley is a future star in the business.”
