HAMMOND, La. – Despite a hard-fought loss at Southland Conference rival McNeese on Saturday, the Southeastern Louisiana football team remains ranked nationally in both FCS polls released Monday.

The Lions (3-2, 2-1 Southland) suffered their first league loss when the host Cowboys scored the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining. SLU had overcome a 21-point second-quarter deficit to take the lead in the final period, but a 33-yard scoring pass from Cody Orgeron to Trevor Begue proved the game-winner for McNeese in a 38-34 shootout.

In the STATS FCS Top 25, the Lions fell from No. 17 to No. 23. SLU is one of four ranked Southland Conference teams, along with No. 12 Nicholls, No. 16 Central Arkansas and No. 25 Sam Houston State. McNeese and Houston Baptist are both receiving votes.

In the AFCA Coaches poll, Southeastern dropped from No. 19 to No. 25. Southland foes No. 12 Nicholls, No. 16 Central Arkansas and No. 24 Sam Houston State join the Lions in the coaches poll, while Houston Baptist and UIW are receiving votes.
