HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern’s Shea Foster was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after his record setting performance at the 2021 Southland Conference Indoor Championships and Southland Cross Country title, the USTFCCCA announced Tuesday.

Tuesday’s announcement caps off an incredible two-week stretch for Foster.

The junior set all-time Southland Indoor Championship records in the 3k (8:00.79) and 5k (13:40.36) Sunday and Monday. The Cypress, Texas native also claimed the conference indoor championship in the one-mile race in 4:03.57.

“It’s been a dream,” said Foster. “The entire team has reaped the benefits of not doing the things that normal college students do and committing to training and now we’ve seen the results for it.”

Foster also earned the 2020 Southland Conference Cross Country Championship winning the men’s 8k race in 22:41.2 as he led Southeastern to the team championship Feb. 21 in Hammond.

Adding to his resume, Foster also claimed the Most Valuable Performer in the conference indoor championships Monday scoring 30 points for the weekend.

Foster will compete in the 5k race at the National Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday, March 12 and then the National Cross-Country Championship Race Monday, March 15 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

“This past summer Shea made a commitment to become a national level athlete,” said SLU track and field head coach Corey Mistretta. “And Coach (Rocky) Capello put a plan in place to help him get there. He has remained extremely focused on this mission and things are falling into place nicely for him. We are excited to see how things will go for him next week in Fayetteville and Stillwater.”
