The LHSAA Select school baseball playoffs produced three excellent games Thursday among area teams.

One was a walk-off victory while the other two were upset wins.

In Division I, No. 8 seed Archbishop Shaw rallied to edge No. 9 Holy Cross 3-2 in game one of their regional round series in Marrero in a game broadcast live on CrescentCitySports.com.

Game two is Saturday at 1 p.m. with game three, if necessary, to follow. All games in the series can be viewed live and via replay on CrescentCitySports.com.

Also in Division I, No. 10 seed St. Augustine proved that a regular season win over St. Paul’s was no fluke.

Senior Genesis Prosper belted a dramatic two-out, three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Purple Knights to a 6-4 victory over the Wolves in Covington in game one of their best-of-three series.

St. Augustine scored a run in the top of the first inning on a single by Prosper, who scored on an RBI double by Jeffrey Duroncelay but St. Paul’s answered with three in the bottom of the frame to take an early 3-1 lead.

The Purple Knights got a run in the top of the second on an RBI by Tyrin Kirklan to make it 3-2 before St. Paul’s answered with a run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2.

St. Aug (12-21) cut the deficit to 4-3 with a run in the top of the fifth, setting the stage for the winning rally.

In the seventh, freshman Judah Duroncelay had a bunt single and Howard Bachus reached on an infield single, setting the table for Prosper’s game-winning home run to right field.

Kirklan started and 5 2/3 innings for the Purple Knights before Bryce Robinson came on to pick up the win in relief.

Trent Caime homered for the Wolves, Drew Bode had two hits and Brian Lea drove in a run.

Aiden Barrios took the loss for St. Paul’s (15-17).

St. Augustine defeated St. Paul’s 6-4 on March 10.

Game two is tonight at 6 p.m. with game three, if necessary, slated for Saturday at 11 a.m.

In Division II, No. 10 seed De La Salle went to Thibodaux and defeated No. 7 E.D. White Catholic 8-7 in game one of their best-of-three-series.

On the mound, junior Zach Brisset went 5 1/3 innings, allowing no earned runs on six hits to pick up the win.

Sophomore Talan Tourelle pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth inning before Senior Emmanuel Taveras pitched out of a bases loaded, full count jam in the bottom of the seventh with a big strikeout to end the game.

Sophomore Gavin Kimble paced the De La Salle offense, going 4 for 4 with two RBI while freshman Ty Poole had a two-run homer.

De La Salle (17-9) will try to win the series today at 4 p.m. while the Cardinals (18-15) must win twice to advance. Game three, if necessary, would be Saturday at 2 p.m.
