Evangel cruised past Woodlawn, 49-12, Friday night at Rodney Duron Field.

Blake Shapen ran for four touchdowns and threw for two more to pace Evangel. Shapen’s three-yard touchdown run at 9:53 in the first quarter gave the Eagles an early lead and Jake Harville followed that up with a seven-yard run to make it 14-0.

Woodlawn cut the deficit in the second Quarter with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Delatrion Moton to Tyrone Montgomery but the visiting Knights did not see the end zone again until late in the third quarter.

Shapen’s second scoring run of the night, a 19-yard touchdown, was followed by his touchdown pass to Jiren Rattler with 1:43 left in the opening half to give Evangel a 28-6 advantage.

The Eagles enjoyed a strong night on defense was well. Chris Dennis and Jalen Abrahams led the way with an interception a piece.

Shapen scored another touchdown on a one-yard keeper midway through the third quarter.

Aviyonne Farris scored Woodlawn’s second half touchdown.

Shapen, a commitment to Arizona State for both football and baseball, again hooked up with Rattler through the air early in the fourth and later capped his big night with a 21-yard run to complete the scoring.

“I am proud of how we competed,” said Evangel head coach Byron Dawson.

Evangel will travel to play Northwood next Friday while Woodlawn has a bye week.
