State Senator Cleo Fields wrote a letter to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) requesting that all athletic activities at K-12 public schools in the state be suspended through December.

Fields, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, stated in the letter Monday that concern about the spread of the COVID-19 virus make the decision “too critical” to be decided by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA).

BESE has a meeting scheduled on July 14 to discuss the potential reopening of schools for the upcoming semester and what guidelines will need to be followed.
