Select schools, Class C open state softball quarterfinals in Sulphur

A total of 12 metro area schools swing into action today in the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA state softball quarterfinals at Frasch Park in Sulphur.

All select schools will be in action while Class C will play its quarterfinals on the non-select side.

Among area teams, in Division I, top seed and defending state champion Mount Carmel Academy (18-5) should have no trouble with eighth seed McKinley (0-13) at 5 p.m. on Field 13

Second seed John Curtis Christian (19-7) should advance as well as the Lady Patriots take on St. Joseph’s Academy (7-24) at 5 p.m. on Field 16.

Fourth seed Dominican (10-17) faces fifth seed Byrd (7-21) at 5 p.m. on Field 14 and it will be sixth seed Archbishop Chapelle (5-21) meeting third-seeded Evangel Christian (20-8) at 5 p.m. on Field 15.

In Division II, eighth seed Thomas Jefferson (16-8) faces a tall task against top-seed Parkview Baptist (26-5) at 2:30 p.m. on Field 17.

Second seed Archbishop Hannan (23-5) faces seventh seed De La Salle (17-12) at 2:30 p.m. on Field 20.

It will be third seed St. Charles Catholic (22-5) taking on 11th seed E.D. White Catholic (12-14) at 2:30 p.m. on Field 19.

In Division III, eighth-seeded Northlake Christian (12-8) must battle top-seeded Calvary Baptist (26-2) at 2:30 p.m. on Field 13.

Third seed St. Thomas Aquinas (26-6) battles sixth seed Riverside Academy (9-14) at 2:30 p.m. on Field 15.

Seventh seed Patrick Taylor (13-9) tries second seed Notre Dame (18-4) at 2:30 p.m. on Field 16.

The semifinals and finals are set for Saturday.

All non-select schools, with the exception of Class C, have their quarterfinals Friday.
