Saints coasch Sean Payton was named to the influential NFL competition committee in September. He takes part in his first meeting this week in New York.

Payton and Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin are the two head coaches serving on the eight-member committee, according to NFL vice president Troy Vincent.

The competition committee convenes again after the NFL Scouting Combine and then makes recommendations on rule changes at the league owners’ meetings in the spring.
