MONROE, La. – ULM Chief Administrative Officer Scott McDonald has been named Interim Director of Athletics, according to an announcement made Tuesday, Sept. 4 by ULM President Dr. Nick J. Bruno.

“With the fall sports schedule in full swing, I felt it was important to identify someone to provide leadership and stability for our student-athletes, coaches and athletics administration, and Scott McDonald is the perfect fit for that role,” Dr. Bruno said. “A dedicated ULM alum, he brings a wealth of experience to the position as well as great knowledge and appreciation for the synergy between our campus and the local communities. Scott also brings a unique perspective to this position because he once walked in the shoes of our current student-athletes.”

“In my brief tenure as Chief Administrative Officer (since July 16), I have been impressed with the dedication and passion of the Athletics Department staff,” McDonald said. “I’m excited to continue to work and build on the solid foundation Nick Floyd established, achieving success both on and off the field.

“This is a tremendous time to be involved with Warhawk Athletics, and there’s no question in my mind that excitement is building on our campus as well as within our community.”

A three-year letterman as an outfielder for ULM (1980-83), McDonald was a member of the 1983 squad that won the school’s first Southland Conference Championship in baseball as well as the first team in program history to participate in an NCAA Regional.

McDonald earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from ULM in 1983 and completed the LSU Graduate School of Banking program in 2010.

He spent 33 years in the financial services industry, including the last 12 as Executive Vice President of Ouachita Independent Bank and BancorpSouth. McDonald is past president of the ULM “L” Club, Warhawk Club and ULM Facilities Corporation. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors for the ULM Facilities Corporation.

McDonald was presented the 2016 “Slim” Scogin Award by the Warhawk Club (formerly ULM Athletic Foundation).

On Aug. 20, Nick Floyd announced his decision to step down from the Director of Athletics position, effective Sept. 4, in order to focus on managing a physical health issue. Floyd will continue to serve the University in an administrative role through Dec. 31, 2018.
