Saturday Prep Basketball: Crescent City Christian holds off KIPP-Booker T. Washington

Crescent City Christian continued its trend upward with a solid 60-53 victory at KIPP-B.T. Washington Saturday evening. It was the sixth straight win for the Pioneers.
The Lions took a 12-10 lead after one quarter before Crescent City Christian erupted in the second quarter, outscoring KIPP-B.T. Washington 23-12 to take a 33-24 lead by halftime. It was 44-35 going to the final quarter.
The Lions pulled within four points in the final frame but could get no closer.
Jordin Farrell led the Pios (15-11) with 21 points while Byron Joshua had 18 points. Keane Smith added 10 points. Tyrese Washington topped KIPP-B.T. Washington (12-14) with 20 points while Shapaca Smith and Mike Johnson each scored 11 points.
Crescent City Christian, who won the Division V state title in 2017, is second in the most recent LHSAA Division V power rankings behind Jehovah-Jireh while KIPP-B.T. Washington was tenth in the Class 1A power rankings. Crescent City beat Jehovah-Jireh in the state championship game in 2017 before Jehovah-Jireh avenged that loss by defeating the Pios in the 2018 Division V state title contest.
Crescent City Christian returns to action Monday night at Karr at 7 pm in a non-district contest while KIPP-B.T. Washington travels to Clark next Friday at 6 pm.
