ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL LHSAA STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS — Division I Girls First-Day Story
Monday, April 29, 2019, at Les Vieux Chenes (5,679 yards, par 74), Youngsville, La.

YOUNGSVILLE – Sarah Hodson of Central Lafourche rallied back from a front-nine struggle with three birdies and an eagle on the back nine, and used that stretch to grab the girls’ Division I individual lead Monday in the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA State Golf Championships.

Hodson eagled the par-three 18th hole after posting birdies at the 10th, 14th and 16th holes to finish with a 42-35—77 score, good enough for a two-stroke lead over Madeline Boudreau of Academy of Our Lady entering Tuesday’s final trip around the 5,679-yard par-74 Les Vieux Chenes course.

Boudreau, the top returning individual after a third-place finish last year, carded a 79, and three other players – McKenzie LeDuff of St. Louis, Victoria Stephens of Mt. Carmel and Gillian Cole of C. E. Byrd, were one more stroke back at 80.

Kaitlyn Montoya of Captain Shreve and Sarah Meal of St. Scholastica were in striking range, four strokes out of the lead and tied for sixth at 81.

Zachary did not have a player in the top seven individually, but Kylie O’Brien’s 82 and Emily Hagan’s 86 were good enough to provide a 168 team score and a two-shot lead over C. E. Byrd (170) in the team competition. Ursuline was at 175, and defending champion Sulphur and Central Lafourche were tied for fourth at 183.
