Salmen vs. Shaw football game Saturday on WGSO radio
The Archbishop Shaw Eagles will be in search of an elusive first win of the season when the Eagles host Salmen Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hoss Memtsas Stadium in a non-district contest.
You can listen to the game live on WGSO 990 AM and at www.wgso.com with Ken Trahan and Mark Williams.
Shaw (0-6) has scored just 20 points on the season but have shown signs of life recently on offense. The return of sophomore running back Rayon McGrew from injury helps the Eagles rushing attack. Freshman tight end Luke Pounds has a pair of touchdown receptions while senior wide receiver Lonzell McCoy has 14 catches for 153 yards. Hard-hitting senior safeties D’Quan Charles and Brock Davis are top defenders for the Eagles.
Salmen (5-1) has won four straight games following a thrilling 34-33 non-district win over Franklinton, whom the Spartans will play again in district play in a couple of weeks.
Senior quarterback LJ Leonard is a three-year Salmen starter while junior Aaron Williams is coming off of a big game in the win over Franklinton. He rushed 17 times for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Brayden Gabel had seven catches for 126 yards and two scores against the Demons. Senior Garrett Crawford is a good defensive lineman and also starts on offense while TCU commit Eddie Smith is an outstanding cornerback for the Spartans.
