Saints WR Tre’Quan Smith recovering from groin surgery

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith has had groin surgery, and the ongoing recovery will likely cause him to miss the season opener vs. Tennessee. Jeff Duncan of The Advocate reported the news Friday morning.
The injury was suffered at a training camp practice on August 5, per Duncan who indicated Dr. William Meyers performed the surgery in Philadelphia soon after the injury occurred.
Entering his sixth NFL season (all with the Saints), Smith is expected to miss the opening game of the regular season for the third straight year.
New Orleans has five other receivers on the active roster – Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, A.T. Perry and Keith Kirkwood.
The Saints host the Titans in Week 1 on Sunday, Sept. 10 at noon CT.
