Changes to the initial 53 man Saints roster for the regular season came quickly.

Veteran fullback John Kuhn and defensive end Darryl Tapp have been released to make room for a pair of rookies, quarterback Taysom Hill and wide receiver Austin Carr were claimed off waivers by New Orleans.

A three-time former Pro Bowl selection, Kuhn joined the Saints last season after nine seasons with the Packers. He turns 35 on Saturday.

Tapp, who turns 33 this month, spent last season in New Orleans, his fifth NFL stop. He played in all 16 regular season games and made two starts in 2016.

Hill, a BYU product, completed 14-of-20 attempts for 149 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions during the preseason with the Packers. Drew Brees and Chase Daniel were the only quarterbacks on the Saints 53-man roster after the preseason after Garrett Grayson and Ryan Nassib were released.

A rookie free agent out of Northwestern, the 6-foot-1 Carr made 14 catches for 153 yards with a pair of touchdowns for the Patriots this preseason.

Carr joins Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn Jr., Tommylee Lewis and Brandon Coleman at wide receiver in New Orleans. Willie Snead IV is suspended for the first three games of the regular season.
