Saints re-sign wide receiver Austin Carr

A familiar face is returning to the Saints for the start of training camp.
Veteran wide receiver Austin Carr has re-signed with New Orleans, inking a one-year contract.
While he has shown flashes of competency and runs precise routes, Carr has yet to make his mark with the Saints.
In three seasons with the Saints, Carr has played in 21 games, starting five. Carr has just 10 catches for 106 yards with two touchdowns on 18 targets.
Carr, 26, originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots in 2017. He has an outstanding preseason with New England, catching 14 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns but it was not enough as the Patriots released him prior to the start of the season.
Carr was claimed off waivers by the Saints and has been with New Orleans since. Carr played in six games, starting three last season, but was placed on injured reserve Nov. 22 with an ankle injury and missed the remainder of the season.
Carr faces an uphill battle to stick this season with the acquisition of Emmanuel Sanders as the team’s slot receiver, a spot that Carr plays. Of course, Sanders can also play on the outside very effectively.
Carr will also have to battle Tre’Quan Smith, Lil’ Jordan Humphrey. Tommylee Lewis, Emmanuel Butler and speedy Deonte Harris, a Pro Bowl kick return man, for a roster spot.
