Earlier Monday, NFL Network indicated Brees had a rib contusion before ESPN’s reports on the more extensive damage apparently suffered on a hit by 49ers defensive lineman Kentavius Street that drew a personal foul penalty.
The 41-year old quarterback has already been dealing with a sore throwing shoulder and referred to his inability to play during the second half against San Francisco a “accumulative thing” but the latest injuries are not ones the future Hall of Famer can play through.

Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill took snaps behind center in Brees’ absence as New Orleans handled San Francisco, 27-13. Head coach Sean Payton did not provide any clarity Monday regarding the quarterback situation moving forward.
