New Orleans Saints long snapper Jon Dorenbos has a life-threatening heart condition.

The 15-year NFL veteran was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm that will require immediate open-heart surgery.

Saints head coach Sean Payton said in a conference call Friday that the 37-year old Dorenbos will be placed on the Non Football Injury list, similar to the situation with defensive tackle Nick Fairley’s heart condition during he offseason.

New Orleans traded a seventh-round pick in 2019 to Philadelphia for Dorenbos last week, and Dr. John Amoss was going through the long snapper’s second physical when he discovered the problem.

Payton that the trade is likely to be voided in lieu of Dorenbos’ condition.

“Yes, that will handle itself. In other words, this is a preexisting condition that he had genetically at birth. Yes, absolutely,” said Payton.

Tryouts for potential replacements for Dorenbos are planned Friday, according to Payton.
