Pair Noibanchong

Junior golf is underway and the year looks promising with four tours offering competition for our junior golfers.

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour, now based out of New Orleans, offers two day events in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

The new Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour is a tour designed for our New Orleans area junior golfers.

The revamped Gulf States Section PGA Junior Golf Tour will hold one day tournaments in both Louisiana and Mississippi with an emphasis on growing golf at the grass roots level at the tournament site.

The GSPGA Junior Tour will host the prestigious Tommy Moore New Orleans PGA Junior Open at Lakewood. Tommy as a junior golfer held the distinction of being the #1 ranked junior golfer in the country.

We also have the US Kids Tour which is designed for the entry level junior golfer up to age 14. Our region is fortunate to have a true spirit of cooperation from every tour to work together for the growth of our game. A great time to be a junior golfer.

Tour schedules are listed below. The US Kids Tour can be located at the Gulf States Section PGA website.

Mandeville’s Pair Noibanchong Wins Arrowhead Junior Golf Tournament

Jordan Karam of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Pair Noibanchong (pictured above) of Mandeville, Louisiana captured the senior division titles of the AJGT Copper Mill Junior Classic this past weekend in Zachary, Louisiana.

William Meyers of Baton Rouge, Louisiana captured the junior boys title.

The players had to control their ball in steady winds of twenty miles per hour on Saturday with gusts up to thirty one. The winds calmed to ten miles per hour on Sunday and temperatures finally rose to make for an enjoyable day. The folks at Copper Mill again did an outstanding job of helping us put on a first class event.

Pat Noibanchong of Mandeville, Louisiana shot a second round 78 for a two day total of 152 (74-78) to win the Senior Girls Division of the AJGT Copper Mill Junior Classic. Noibanchong began the day with a two stroke lead over Ali Lucas, 156 (76-80) of Crowley, Louisiana. The lead remained at two shots after nine holes on Sunday. Noibanchong birdied the par four tenth hole to open her lead and cruise to victory.

Alexandra Anderson, 164 (85-79), of Charlotte, North Carolina and Elise Bradley, 164 (84-80), of Mandeville, Louisiana were tied for third. Jara Templet, 171 (88-83) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana finished fifth.

Karam Claims Senior Title

Jordan Karam (pictured below on bottom right) of Lake Charles, Louisiana fired a second round 73 for a two day total of 147 (74-73) to capture the AJGT Copper Mill Junior Classic this weekend in Zachary, Louisiana.

Karam and Adam Galliano, 149 (76-73) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana were grouped in the final pairing with Scott Sweeney, 150 (76-74) of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Karam bogeyed the par three second hole and after a Galliano birdie at number three the two were tied. The match see sawed until number seventeen when Karam rolled in a 20 foot birdie putt for a two stroke cushion.

Karam also won the Arrowhead event held at Beaver Creek in Zachary in February of this year. Karam is distinguishing himself as one the premier junior golfers in the state of Louisiana. Sweeney, a teammate of Karam’s at Barbe High School, stood alone in third.

Parker Rutherford, 153 (76-77), of Vicksburg , Mississippi and Drew Boston, 153 (77-76), of Baton Rouge, Louisiana finished tied for fourth. Grady Brame Jr., 154 (78-76), of Hammond, Louisiana, Chuck Spears, 156 (81-75), of Pineville Louisiana and Lewis Peters, 157 (81-76), of Baton Rouge, Louisiana rounded out the top eight.

Angelica Harris (bottom left) shot a two day total of 176 (91-85) to claim the Junior Girls Title.

William Meyers (top of frame) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana shot a two day total of 159 (78-81) to capture the Junior Boys Division at Copper Mill.

Meyers began the day tied with Johnny Maxwell, 160 (78-82), of Ruston, Louisiana. Meyers opened a three shot lead on the front nine. Maxwell drove the downwind 270 yard par four sixteenth and holed his putt for an eagle and a tie. Meyers regained the lead at number seventeen. Brennan LeBlanc 164 (86-78) shot even par on the front nine on his way to a 78 and third place.

Nick Dartez, 165 (82-83), of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Thomas Ruli, 165 (84-81) were tied for fourth.

Norman Blanco of New Orleans holed a 4 iron from 201 yards on the par three second hole for a hole in one.
