Rummel vs. St. Augustine to air live Saturday on WGSO radio

The regular season finale in the Catholic League between Archbishop Rummel (7-2, 4-1) and St. Augustine (5-4, 1-4) at Tad Gormley Stadium can he heard live Saturday afternoon on WGSO 990AM and at WGSO.com.

WGSO Sports Director Ken Trahan of CrescentCitySports.com will provide the play-by-play while Easten Roth and Phil Greco give color commentary. The three Rummel Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be joined by Jordan Liuzza, who will provide sideline reports. The broadcast begins with pregame at 2:30 p.m.

The Raiders can clinch second place in District 9-5A and likely the No. 3 seed along with bye into the quarterfinals of the Division I state playoffs with a victory.

Rummel is led by senior quarterback Chandler Fields, who has completed 74-of-129 passes for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns with five interceptions. The UL-Lafayette commit has rushed 89 times for 373 yards.

Junior running back Jaelen Sturgis leads Rummel’s rushing attack with 912 yards and 10 touchdowns on 162 carried. Junior wide receiver Koy Moore, a USC commit, has 29 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders are led on defense by junior linebacker Donovan Kaufman, who has 59 tackles, six sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery on the season to date.

The Purple Knights have an outside shot earning the No. 8 seed and a home game in the Division I first round with the victory. However, St. Aug is likely to finish anywhere from ninth to 11th.

Senior quarterback Trevon Woodson has completed 115-of-168 passes for 1,683 yards and 14 touchdowns with just two interceptions for the Purple Knights. He has also rushed 83 times for 339 yards and three scores.

St. Augustine’s leading rusher is freshman Justin Doyle with 65 carries for 387 yards and five touchdowns. Broderick Martin has 40 catches for 548 yards and four touchdowns, and he has also rushed for three scores. Junior safety Jaheim Walters, the top Purple Knights tackler this year with 45 stops, also has an interception return for a touchdown.
