An outstanding Jefferson Parish rivalry will be renewed Saturday night when Archbishop Rummel hosts Archbishop Shaw at 7 p.m. at Joe Yenni Stadium in a District 9-5A contest.

You can listen to the game live on NASH ICON 106.1 FM and at NASHFM1061.com with Cumulus New Orleans Sports Director Ken Trahan of Crescent City Sports, former East St. John and Nicholls State head coach Phil Greco and Emmanuel Pepis of Crescent City Sports. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.

The two Jefferson Parish schools were born in the same year (1962) in Metairie and Marrero, respectively, and have been playing each other since 1964, the first year of each football program.

The winner takes home the Megaphone, which bears the colors of each school and each year’s results and keeps it for the following year.

Rummel leads the series 31-23 and the Raiders have won the last nine meetings.

The two rivals did not meet in 2020, with its game canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rummel led the last meeting in 42-0 in 2019.

The Raiders (2-0) have wins over Slidell (12-11) and defending Division IV state champion Calvary Baptist (23-14).

Rummel is led by sophomore running back Jaidyn Martin, who has rushed 39 times for 293 yards and three touchdowns and senior wide receiver Nicholas Howard has seven catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore defensive back Darrius Davis leads the Rummel defense with 28 tackles, along with an interception and a forced fumble.

The Eagles (2-1) have won two straight games, beating John Ehret (7-0) and Holy Cross (27-13) after opening the season with a 37-27 loss to St. James.

Shaw is led by junior running back David Kency, who has 47 carries for 327 yards and two touchdowns and has nine catches for 106 yards and two scores. Junior wide receiver Michael Williams has 10 catches for 106 yards and a score. Sophomore defensive end Jayden Scott has 10 tackles, including three sacks for the Eagles defense.
